Terms and Conditions

1. Obligations of the Client

1.1 The client must ensure that the household effects are packed for transport (except
at full service). The contents of, for example, a moving box must be packed in such a way that individual items cannot damage each other.


1.2 All boxes must be properly closed, cupboard doors locked, drawers and loose shelves must be removed from the cupboards to limit damage during transport (except for full service).


1.3. Small items (trinkets, lamps, pots, etc.) must be prepackaged in closed boxes (except for full service). If this is not the case, Meijer Movements may refuse to move it or transport it at your own risk.


1.4 Electronic devices must be packed in original boxes. If this is not the case, Meijer Movements may refuse to move it or transport it at your own risk


1.5 Mattresses must be packed in advance if they cannot get dirty.


1.6 All valuables such as jewellery, money, etc. must at all times remain under the supervision of the client.


1.7 Disassembly and assembly of furniture must be reported by the client in advance (except in the case of full-service).


1.8 The client must provide sufficient parking space for the removal vans and trailers. If sufficient parking space has been kept free, it remains the responsibility of the Client to pay sufficient parking fees. The responsibility for applying for a (possible) exemption lies with the client, unless this must be requested by Meijer Movements at the explicit request of the client. If no exemption has been requested, all possible ensuing costs are for the account of the client.


1.9 If necessary, the client is responsible for access to the removal hook/lifting beam as well as clear passage for the entire household effects to be moved. Towing is always at your own risk. All damage as a result of hoisting is fully at the expense of the client.


1.10 The client is responsible for protecting all floor parts over which household effects have to be moved, this also applies to the entire passage of the household effects at all addresses that Meijer Movements visits on behalf of the customer. Wooden and stone floors are fragile and must be adequately protected by the client. Damage to floor parts is always at the client's own risk.


1.11 The client is responsible for the planting that may cause an obstacle to the move (high hedges, large trees, etc.). Meijer Movements does not trim trees or hedges.


1.12 The client is not permitted to offer, have packaged or transported:

a. Items the possession of which constitutes a criminal offense

b. Flammable or explosive substances

c. Matters that cause or can reasonably cause damage to the environment – ​​for example to the air, subsoil or ground water. (Client is obliged to comply with the Transport and Storage Environmental Management Act)

d. Perishable items or livestock.

e. Matters for which a government permit is required. The Contractor may permit such matters, provided that the Client demonstrates in advance that it has the necessary permits.

2. Payment obligations

2.1 The client, or the designated contact person must have sufficient payment options to pay the total financial sum of the move immediately afterwards.


2.2 Companies can pay by invoice in agreement with Meijer Movements, whereby a Chamber of Commerce extract and a copy of ID from the client or authorized representative are submitted prior to the move. Individuals cannot pay by invoice.


2.3 If payment is not made, any collection costs and interest are for the account of the client. If it proves necessary to initiate legal proceedings for the collection of the claim submitted for collection, all costs associated with legal proceedings (such as bailiff's costs, court fees, attorney's fees and all additional and related costs) will be borne by the client.


2.4 If it appears during the relocation and/or the settlement that the client and/or indicated contact person does not have sufficient financial resources to pay and/or refuses to pay the full total sum of the relocation, Meijer Movements is fully entitled to (part of) appropriate the contents of the house as collateral for the total amount. This seizure falls under the right of retention and can never be regarded as unlawful appropriation. If after 6 months the payment term has elapsed, the Contractor is still in possession of goods from the removal, the latter is fully entitled to trade the goods for the benefit of (part of) the total amount owed.


2.5 For each (complete) removal, a mover will be charged for at least 1 hour. At least 2 hours for two movers and at least 3 hours for three movers. Outside Amsterdam, return is counted from Amsterdam.


2.6 The Client may under no circumstances make a settlement. The invoice must be paid at all times regardless of damage. Damage must be arranged afterwards.


2.7 Meijer Movements reserves the right to apply an adjusted rate before 09:00, after 21:00 and/or on Sundays and public holidays.


2.8 The removal lift will be settled for at least 2 hours, unless explicitly stated otherwise by Meijer Movements.


2.9 If the client decides to cancel the move, this must be made known at least 24 hours in advance. Within 24 hours before the start, at least 1 hour will be charged for a reserved mover. At least 2 hours for two movers and at least 3 hours for three movers.

3. Liability and Damage

3.1 Meijer Movements is not liable for damage and/or loss caused during the transport and loading and unloading of the goods, unless otherwise agreed in writing.


3.2 Moving is done via the stairs and/or indoor elevator if there is no other option. Meijer Movements is in all cases exempt from liability in the event of damage to stairwells, the elevator and household effects.


3.3 In the event of damage, the client must specify this damage in the presence of Meijer Movements and have this established in writing. The liability lapses after the departure of Meijer Movements.


3.4 In the event of damage, the deductible for the client is €500 per event.


3.5 Rust, oxidation and water damage due to other weather conditions are not covered by liability.


3.6 Goods placed in the means of transport by someone other than Meijer Movements are not insured.


3.7 In the event of damage to an insured object, arising from a guaranteed risk, the compensation payable by the insurers will not exceed the repair or restoration costs of the damaged objects, as provided for in the expert report. As a result, any decrease in value that the goods would have after repair or restoration is excluded from the insurance.


3.8 Where the items insured by this policy are a pair or series insured for their total value, the value of each item will be calculated by dividing the total value by the number of items making up the pair or series.


3.9 Meijer Movements is not liable for waiting times caused by incorrectly parked vehicles, even if the traffic signs have been requested by the company. The costs for the waiting time are always at the expense of the client.


3.10 Meijer Movements is never liable for material and/or physical damage to the client and/or his/her extra manpower.


3.11 For the use of the removal lift, frames must be cleared and windows must be able to be opened or dismantled completely. When using/ordering, the client agrees to install the removal lift against the building. The client indemnifies Meijer Movements against all possible damage to the building due to the use of the removal lift and/or the performance of the work.


3.12 Any delay can occur due to the delay of a (previous) move, traffic jams, bad weather conditions and incorrectly specified information (from the previous/current/next client) do not constitute grounds for complaint or compensation. The aforementioned causes also form a logical extension of the given start time.


3.13 Meijer Movements reserves the right to terminate the agreement without any compensation being required, in the event of force majeure, strike, lockout, fire, war, mobilization, flood and other natural disasters, or any cause of delay independent of the will of Meijer Movements.


3.14 Moving items heavier than 100 kg is always at the client's own risk. The removal of such heavy household effects/freight must be reported to Meijer Movements before the start of the move. The removal of such items must be done with at least 3 movers. Meijer Movements is free to refuse such items.

4. Other conditions

4.1 Meijer Movements is at all times allowed to refuse items without stating reasons.


4.2 In case of wind speeds of more than 60 km/h, we reserve the right to move removals with rope & block or lift to another date.


4.3 When moving house, sufficient manpower must be present or ordered, including at least 1 professional mover. Heavy objects such as washing machines must be moved professionally with sufficient manpower. Meijer Movements reserves the right to charge extra help if there is a shortage of manpower.


4.4 Problems and/or complaints during the assignment must be reported immediately to the ultimately responsible manager at the office of Meijer Movements. Commitments can only be made by the management at the office, which are always confirmed in writing.


4.5 If, due to unforeseen circumstances, the rope & block and/or the removal lift cannot be placed, another lift and/or more manpower can be called in with the associated extra costs.


4.6 Agreements and/or promises that deviate from these general terms and conditions are only binding for Meijer Movements if they have been expressly confirmed in writing by Meijer Movements before the start of the move.


4.7 Meijer Movements reserves the right to take a break during the move. This break is not charged to the client.


4.8 Meijer Movements reserves the right, in exceptional circumstances, to change the planning in order to ensure a smooth process. Meijer Movements will inform you of changes the day before.
